Chapter 9 - The Apology

It was pouring rain when the doorman called up. Julian was downstairs. Against my better judgment, I let him up.

He stepped off the elevator looking broken. The arrogant corporate king was gone. He fell to his knees on the very hardwood floor where Eleanor had dropped her bag months ago.

"Sarah," he sobbed, tears streaming down his face. "I was a fool. I was blind. I cut her off. I haven't spoken to my mother in months. Please. I don't want your money, I don't want the penthouse. I just want to be a father to our child."

I looked down at him. Part of me felt pity, but the scars were deep.

"Stand up, Julian," I commanded. "I don't need a crying boy. If you want to be in this child's life, here are the rules." I handed him a 50-page legal document. "Full financial transparency, weekly therapy, and you never bring that woman near my child. You cross me once, you're gone forever."
