One year later, I stood in the same bathroom where Ryan had dropped the makeup bag.

The bruises were long gone. The split lip had healed. I no longer needed concealer to face the world.

I looked at my reflection and saw someone I recognized again—the woman my father had raised. Patient. Careful. Unbreakable when it mattered.
