Chapter 6: The Arrest
The officers stepped out calmly. One of them approached Ryan while the other spoke to me.
“Mrs. Hayes,” the female officer said gently. “We have a restraining order and an arrest warrant for domestic assault. We also have a warrant to search the property in connection with financial crimes involving your mother-in-law.”
Ryan tried to laugh it off.
“This is ridiculous. Ava, tell them—”
I didn’t say anything. I simply stepped aside and let the officers do their job.
Victoria tried to push past them into the house.
“You can’t do this! This is my son’s home!”
The officer stopped her.
“Ma’am, this house belongs to Mrs. Hayes. You have no legal right to enter without her permission.”
Victoria’s face went white.
Ryan finally understood.
He looked at me like he was seeing a stranger.
“You planned this,” he said, voice low and dangerous.
