Chapter 11 - REBUILDING THE EMPIRE

Six months passed since that bloody night at the Moretti estate.

The mafia war with the Romano family ended shortly after Marco’s treason was revealed.

With Marco locked away for life and the Romanos dismantled, Lorenzo’s control over Chicago was absolute.

Nobody dared challenge Don Lorenzo Moretti again.

In downtown Chicago, a grand new building opened its doors to the public.

It was called Sterling & Moretti, a high-end luxury bakery designed precisely to my specifications.

On opening morning, lines stretched around three city blocks.

I stood behind the glass display counters, wearing my chef coat, admiring rows of delicate truffles, tarts, and cakes.

I was living my dream, but on my own terms.

The bell above the door chimed, and the morning crowd parted automatically.

Lorenzo walked into the bakery, wearing a dark navy suit that made him look impossibly handsome.

Two bodyguards stood discreetly by the door, keeping an eye on the street.

Lorenzo walked straight to my main display, ignoring the murmurs of awe from the customers.

He leaned across the counter, smiling softly at me.

“What’s your name?” he asked quietly, repeating the very first question he had ever asked me.

May you like

I smiled back, leaning forward so our lips were inches apart.

“Camila Moretti,” I answered proudly.
