Chapter 7 - THE SACRIFICE

“Don’t die,” I whispered, tears brimming in my eyes.

It was crazy. I had only known this dangerous mafia lord for two days.

Yet the thought of him dying left a painful void in my chest.

Lorenzo paused, a gentle look crossing his battle-hardened face.

He reached up, cupping my face with his blood-stained hands, and pressed a deep, passionate kiss to my lips.

The kiss was intense, possessive, and desperate.

It tasted like copper, rain, and absolute fire.

When he pulled back, he was breathless.

“I won’t die,” Lorenzo promised against my lips. “I have too much to come back to now.”

He hit the interior button, and the heavy steel door began to slide shut.

“Lorenzo!” I called out.

“I love you, Camila,” he said just before the door sealed completely, locking me in silence.

Inside the safe room, the sound of gunshots was muffled into faint thuds.

The safe room had monitors showing security feeds from around the mansion.

I watched the screens with my heart in my throat.

I saw Lorenzo on the camera feeds leading his men like an unstoppable commander.

He moved through the smoke and fire, taking down enemy after enemy without hesitation.

Suddenly, I noticed something strange on the monitor in the west wing.

Marco was standing near the estate’s security vault, talking to a man in a red tie—a Romano commander.

Marco was pointing toward the study where the safe room was hidden!

My stomach dropped into a cold abyss.

It wasn't an external attack.

It was a betrayal from within.

Marco was selling out his own brother!
