Chapter 6 - UNDER FIRE

Shouts filled the corridors outside my room.

Automatic gunfire echoed from the front gates, shaking the heavy glass windows.

I panicked, looking around for anything to defend myself with.

Suddenly, my bedroom door burst open.

I gasped, pulling a heavy brass lamp off the nightstand, raising it high.

Lorenzo stepped into the room, a smoking gun in his dark hand and blood splattered on his white shirt.

“Camila! Lower the lamp!” he called out sharply.

I dropped the lamp, my breath coming in ragged gasps. “What’s happening?!”

“Romano’s men breached the outer perimeter,” Lorenzo said, grabbing my hand firmly.

“Marco’s squad is holding them off at the courtyard, but we need to move to the safe room.”

Another loud explosion shook the floor beneath our feet.

Dust fell from the intricate ceiling mouldings.

Lorenzo pulled me into the hallway, shielding my body with his own as we ran down the corridor.

Men in dark tactical gear were firing down the main staircase.

Lorenzo raised his weapon and fired three precise shots, dropping two attackers instantly.

He was a force of nature—ruthless, precise, and completely fearless.

Yet, every step he took was designed to keep me behind his back, protected from the bullets.

We reached a hidden panel in his private study.

Lorenzo punched a code into a hidden keypad, and a reinforced steel door slid open.

“Get inside,” he commanded, pushing me gently into the brightly lit safe room.

“Are you coming with me?” I cried, catching his sleeve.

“I have to finish this, Camila,” Lorenzo said, staring into my eyes.

“If I hide in here with you, my men die outside.”
