Chapter 17 - The Cell Visit

The Otisville Federal Correctional Institution was a grim fortress of concrete and razor wire. Emma waited in the visitation room behind bulletproof glass until the heavy iron doors clanged open.
Richard Carter walked in wearing an orange inmate jumpsuit. Even though he had lost weight and his hair was going gray, he retained the haughty glare of a man who refuses to ever consider himself defeated.
He sat down on the other side of the glass and picked up the phone receiver. Emma did the same.
"I knew you'd come eventually," Richard said with a faint smirk. "I hear you signed the deal. Congratulations, Co-President."
"Sora forced my hand," Emma replied flatly. "She blackmailed me with Victoria's freedom."
Richard let out a dry chuckle.
"Sora is a talented creature, isn't she? Takes right after me. But you're making a mistake if you think she's holding the reins of this game, Emma."

"Sora believes she's using me to get revenge for her mother's death," Richard said, leaning in closer to the glass. "What she doesn't know is that I had a secondary clause drafted into the Zurich trust. A clause that triggers automatically in forty-eight hours."
