Chapter 8: The Sabotage
The trap was sprung on a busy Friday. A priceless diamond necklace, a family heirloom intended for a museum exhibit, vanished from Alexander’s private safe. The local police were called, and a mandatory search of the staff quarters was enacted. Sarah stood trembling in the hallway as officers tore through her small room. "Sir, we found something," an officer called out. He emerged holding the glittering diamond piece, pulling it from the bottom of Veneta’s toy chest, right beneath Barnaby the elephant. Sarah felt the blood drain from her face. "No, no, I swear I've never seen that before! I didn't take it!" she cried. The head housekeeper gasped. Mrs. Dawson, who had 'conveniently' arrived to drop off paperwork, watched from the foyer with a satisfied smile. The trap was perfect.
