Chapter 13 - The Rebrand

Back in the United States, the media machine engineered by Apex Capital was operating with terrifying efficiency.
Within forty-eight hours of Julian's public meltdown at the gala, the narrative across every major financial and lifestyle publication had completely flipped. The headlines didn't focus on the disgraced CEO; they focused on the mysterious, brilliant mastermind who had actually built the empire.
THE WOMAN BEHIND THE CROWN: HOW ELENA VANGUARD REBUILT GLOBAL LUXURY. FROM SHADOW ARCHITECT TO SOLE SOVEREIGN: THE TRUE STORY OF THE AZURE EMPIRE.
In the penthouse office of The Azure—the very office Julian had arrogantly occupied—I sat behind a sleek, glass-top desk, reviewing the rebranding strategy. Every trace of Julian’s name, his custom monogrammed stationery, and his ostentatious vanity projects had been systematically erased.
My father walked into the office, holding a steaming cup of black coffee and a copy of the Wall Street Journal, which featured a full-page spread of me on the front cover.
"They're calling you the most formidable female executive of the decade," Arthur Vanguard said, setting the paper down with a proud grin. "Your mother would have been so proud of you, Elena."
"Thank you, Dad," I said, looking up with a genuine smile. "Though I couldn't have done it without your unwavering support—and a very aggressive legal team."
"Speaking of legal matters," my father's expression turned slightly more serious. "Julian's public defender submitted the plea deal this morning. Three years in federal custody. All civil assets completely forfeited. He's officially a non-entity."
I felt a profound sense of closure wash over me. The knot of anxiety I had carried in my chest for the last year of my marriage completely dissolved.
"Good," I said quietly. "Let's close the file. I want all our energy focused on the European launch."

"Already handling it," Arthur said, walking toward the door. "Oh, and by the way... Alexander called down from Geneva. He wanted to remind you that your 'executive session' starts at eight o'clock sharp tonight at the Hôtel de Ville."
I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. "Tell him I'll be there."
