Chapter 5 - The Walk of Shame

Ten minutes later, the scene from the previous night was perfectly recreated, but the roles were brutally reversed.

Julian and Chloe stood by the elevators, holding nothing but two small duffel bags of their cheap personal clothes. Everything else—the Rolex, the designer suits, the diamond earrings—remained upstairs, confiscated as company property to offset Julian's newly exposed personal debts.

Because while Vanguard Holdings protected the resort, I had ensured Julian signed personal guarantees on the initial high-interest loans years ago. Without the corporate veil to protect him, he owed my family's banks over forty million dollars. He wasn't just broke; he was in a financial grave he could never climb out of.

The elevator doors chimed and opened to the main lobby.

The same lobby I had painstakingly designed. The polished marble floors, the cascading crystal chandeliers, the lush tropical centerpieces.

The lobby was packed. The morning rush was in full swing. Guests were drinking coffee, waiting for check-out. Dozens of employees—bellhops, front desk agents, concierges—were at their stations.

The same employees who had watched me get dragged out in the rain just hours before.

I stepped out of the elevator first, my heels clicking sharply against the marble. Marcus and the legal team flanked me. Behind me, the security team marched Julian and Chloe out.

The chatter in the lobby died instantly. Hundreds of eyes turned to watch.

Julian kept his head down, his face burning with a humiliation so profound he looked physically sick. Chloe was crying openly, trying to hide her face behind her hair as the guests started whispering and pointing.

"Wait," I commanded.

The procession stopped in the dead center of the grand lobby. I turned around to face Julian. He looked up at me, his eyes bloodshot and pleading.

"Last night, Julian, you told me that my place in your world was over," I said, my voice projecting clearly across the silent lobby. Every guest and employee was hanging onto my every word.

"I was wrong, Elena," he choked out, tears spilling down his cheeks. "I was so wrong."

"Yes, you were," I agreed softly. I stepped closer, lowering my voice so only he could hear the final nail going into the coffin. "You thought you broke me. But all you did was break the cage you were living in. Welcome to the real world, Julian. I hope you survive it."

I took a step back and looked at Mr. Hayes. "Escort the trespassers off my property. If they ever step foot on Vanguard land again, have them arrested."

"Yes, Miss Vanguard," Hayes barked. He grabbed Julian by the arm, much rougher than he needed to, and marched him toward the spinning glass doors.

I stood in the center of my beautiful lobby, the vintage emerald glowing against my chest, and watched my ex-husband get thrown out into the damp morning air, left with nothing but the clothes on his back.

The king was dead. Long live the queen.
