Chapter 20 - Absolute Sovereignty

I looked out over the glittering sea of faces in the grand ballroom. The flashbulbs were blinding, but for the first time in my life, I didn't need to shield my eyes. I didn't need to shrink into the background.
"Thank you," I began, my voice clear, steady, and resonant. "For years, people asked who built the Vanguard empire. They looked for a face, a title, a man who claimed to hold the keys to the kingdom."
I paused, letting a faint, confident smile touch my lips.
"They forgot a fundamental truth of the world: A man can wear a crown, but if he doesn't own the land beneath his feet, he is nothing more than a tenant waiting for eviction."
A murmur of appreciative laughter and fierce applause rippled through the room.
"Vanguard Global is built on bedrock. It is built on loyalty, truth, and absolute strength. And to anyone who ever believed that an empire could be stolen from its true architect... I offer you a simple reminder."
I touched the emerald pendant resting against my chest.
"Welcome to our world. We are only just beginning."

As the room erupted into a deafening, roaring standing ovation, Alexander stepped up beside me, wrapping his arm securely around my waist. I looked out past the flashing lights, past the glittering crowd, toward a future without limits, without shadows, and without mercy for those who dared to cross us.
The queen had reclaimed her throne. And the kingdom was safer than it had ever been.
