Chapter 19 - The Crown Official

Back in New York, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed to capacity for the annual Vanguard Global Gala. Leaders of industry, foreign dignitaries, and global investors filled the room, waiting in breathless anticipation.
Arthur Vanguard stepped up to the podium, his posture proud and upright despite his advanced age.
"For over half a century, our family has built foundations that span oceans," my father’s strong voice echoed through the magnificent hall. "We built in silence. We built with patience. And most importantly, we built with absolute truth."
The audience hung on his every word.
"Tonight, we mark a historic transition. I officially step down as Chairman of the Board of Vanguard Global Holdings, and I hand the absolute sovereignty of this empire to the person who designed its future from the very beginning."
Arthur turned and gestured toward the grand staircase.
"Ladies and gentlemen, my daughter, Chairperson and CEO, Elena Vanguard."
The applause that erupted was deafening. It wasn't the polite, corporate clapping of old acquaintances; it was a thunderous standing ovation from the most powerful elite on the planet.
I stepped out from behind the velvet curtains, wearing a stunning, structured white silk gown that commanded the room. Around my neck, my grandmother's emerald pendant caught the stage lights, burning with a brilliant, unyielding green.

I placed my hand in his, feeling the electric spark of our shared future, and stepped up to the podium.
