Chapter 47 - The Alchemy of Retribution

"You survived the Palazzo," Lorenzo murmured, his voice registering neither surprise nor fear, only a profound, chilling contempt. "Elena's blood really is as persistent as vermin."
From the shadows behind the industrial pillars, four of Lorenzo's private guards raised their weapons, training laser sights directly on Lily's chest.
"Shoot her," Vance said nervously, backing away from the chemical drums. "Don Lorenzo, she knows the formulas—she can stop the reaction!"
"Hold your fire," Lorenzo raised his left hand, sneering down at Lily from the balcony. "Let her speak. Tell me, girl... did you come here to beg for your life? Or did you come to offer me another slice of cake?"
"I came to deliver a message from Elena Valenti," Lily said, her voice ringing clearly over the thrum of the hydraulic pumps.
"Elena died forty years ago in a hospital bed with no hands and no name," Lorenzo spat. "She was a tool. An artisan who forgot her place in the machine."
"She didn't die without a name," Lily said, taking a deliberate step toward the chemical vats. The red laser sights converged on her forehead and throat, but she did not blink. "And she didn't leave me empty-handed."
With a flick of her wrist, Lily unhooked the brass valve on the satchel at her waist.
Instead of an explosive or a bullet, she triggered the pressurized release of Elena's counter-agent aerosol. A dense, brilliant cloud of pulverized orange blossom essence and neutralizing compounds erupted from the nozzle, expanding instantly into the humid, recirculated air of the sealed mixing hall.
"What is that?!" Vance screamed, coughing violently as the sweet, citrus-laden fog engulfed the room. "The intake! It's reacting with the aconite vapor!"
The aerosol did not just neutralize the airborne poison; the volatile compounds reacted violently with the catalytic agents Vance had poured into the open drums. A series of sharp, crackling chemical pops echoed across the floor, followed by thick plumes of harmless white smoke that choked the room, instantly blinding the guards' laser optics.

"Kill her!" Lorenzo roared, losing his composure for the first time. "Kill her now!"
Automatic gunfire ripped through the white smoke, but Alessandro had already struck.
