Spring 2084. The off-grid ethical retreat at the peak of the Blue Ridge Mountains—built on the three-acre plot Robert Davis had hidden from the federal government—was officially completed. The Peak Registry stood as a magnificent structure of glass and native stone, floating gracefully above the misty clouds of the valley.
The dedication ceremony was held at dawn, the morning sun painting the mountain peaks in brilliant shades of amber and rose.
A group of twenty young women—the current class of Davis Law Scholars—stood on the open-air stone terrace, holding their digital arrays. Beside them stood Justice Sarah Thorne, her judicial robes catching the mountain breeze.
Claire walked to the center of the terrace, holding the small glass jar containing Robert’s original 1992 note. She looked down at the paper through the glass, then looked up at the endless horizon.
