By 2053, the Claire Davis Educational Trust had graduated its one-hundredth student. To celebrate the milestone, the foundation held a private dinner in Richmond, inviting all the alumni—now prominent doctors, lawyers, engineers, and artists—to share their stories.
Anna and I sat at the head table, surrounded by a sea of vibrant, successful young women who were changing the world.

"Look at what you did, Aunt Claire," Carter whispered, his voice thick with emotion as a young civil rights lawyer thanked the foundation from the stage. "My grandparents wanted to build a family dynasty by stepping on people. They failed completely. You built a dynasty by lifting people up. And this one is never going to fall."
"We built it together, Carter," I said, looking around the room at the beautiful, unstoppable lineage of truth we had set in motion.
