Chapter 54

Chapter 54: The Boardroom Decision
A week later, Anna invited me to sit in on the final negotiation meeting at a high-rise office building in Midtown Manhattan. As an independent consultant and her mother, I sat quietly at the back of the sleek, glass-walled boardroom.
Across the massive mahogany table sat five senior partners of the acquisition firm, surrounded by corporate lawyers and financial analysts.
The lead negotiator, a sharp, polished executive named Mr. Vance, smiled warmly at Anna. "Ms. Davis, we’ve agreed to all your terms. Total creative control, a dedicated budget for sustainable initiatives, and the initial buyout figure we discussed. We just need your signature on the final contract."
Anna looked at the thick stack of papers in front of her. She picked up the silver fountain pen Carter had given her for graduation years ago.
"Before I sign, Mr. Vance," Anna said, her voice calm and authoritative, echoing through the silent boardroom. "I want to clarify one thing. My company was built on absolute transparency and legal compliance. My legal team has verified that your firm has no ties to offshore shell accounts or blind trusts. I don't do business with shadows."

Mr. Vance blinked, slightly taken aback by her bluntness, before laughing respectfully. "I assure you, Ms. Davis, our records are entirely public. We respect your dedication to ethics. It’s exactly why your brand is so valuable to us."
With a smooth, practiced motion, Anna signed her name to the contract. The room erupted into polite applause. I sat in the back, watching my daughter close a deal that secured her financial independence for the rest of her life. She had taken the shattered pieces of her early dreams and turned them into a empire.
