Chapter 22: The Cease and Desist

I didn't report the video, but Marcus Thorne certainly did something better. Within forty-eight hours, he compiled a certified copy of Sabrina’s criminal conviction, the deposition transcript where Robert confessed to the fraud, and the public court records detailing the exact amount they stole from Anna.

He didn't just send it to Sabrina. He posted it directly into the comment section of her viral video using a verified legal account, alongside a formal, public Cease and Desist order for defamation.

“To the followers of this account: The creator, Sabrina Davis, was convicted of felony grand larceny accessorial charges after participating in the theft of $70,000 from a teenager's college trust. Court documents are attached below. Any further defamatory statements regarding Claire Davis will result in immediate civil litigation for damages.”

The internet is a volatile place. The same people who were offering her digital hugs turned into a vicious mob within minutes. By that evening, Sabrina’s account was flooded with thousands of comments calling her a thief, a liar, and a child-robber.

By midnight, her account was completely deleted.

An hour later, my phone rang. It was an unknown number. I answered, and all I heard was Sabrina’s heavy, ragged breathing.

"You just can't let me live, can you?" she hissed, her voice shaking with rage. "You had to take away my only chance at making a living. You won't stop until I’m dead."

"I told you a year ago, Sabrina," I replied calmly. "You build your life on a foundation of lies, and it will collapse. Every single time. Stop calling me."
